Florestan String Quartet's Journey ~ USA to Taiwan   summer 2017

"Florestan String Quartet's Journey -USA to Taiwan" is a non-profit project volunteered by five young professional musicians from Florestan String Quartet residents in "The Orchestra Now" at Bard College. Our goal is to bring classical music to the kids who don't have easy access to it in Taiwan, and also to spread the beauty and appreciation of classical music through Florestan String Quartet's free performances in Taiwan.

Why We Want to Make it Happen:

We have two Taiwanese in our ensemble; I am one of them, and the violist Chi Lee is also from Taiwan. We are both foreign students in America. We spent so many years in America learning, performing and pursuing our profession to the top level. However, recently some questions came to our minds: What's the purpose of all this? If we can do community projects in America, why can't we show our love and perform for our community back in Taiwan? What can we do to make our musical career more meaningful?

What We Do in Taiwan:

  1. We will go to several elementary schools in Taiwan, and work with kids through free workshops and interactive lecture recitals. The purpose of this is to connect kids and classical music without distance. Through the activities, the kids will learn the appreciation for music, art and beauty! The children will also learn about classical music, instruments and what do musicians do?

  2. There will be free concerts in different cities (Taichung City and Kaohsiung City.) We would like to spread classical music to the public by giving free concerts and encourage more people to join the world of classical music.

This project is non-profitably organized. No one in this project will gain anything for their own benefits except the love and joy returned by the children and the Taiwanese society!
